Introduction to variational models in image processing

Course Description:
This course is intended to introduce audiences to problems arising in image processing and computer vision such as image restoration and image segmentation. They have applications in the areas such as medical imaging, computer animation and so forth. Topics include calculus of variations, energy minimization, functions of bounded variation, total variation regularization, cartoon-texture image decomposition f = u+v, and curve evolution techniques.
There are no prerequisites for this course, although a basic knowledge of real analysis, sobolev spaces, measure theory and basic computer programming skill would be helpful.

Course Description:
When investigating a dynamical system, it is of course important to be able to plot trajectories, but that is just the beginning. This lecture aims at helping understand dynamical system with a variety of chaotic properties and methods:

1. characteristic of chaos
2. the way to predict and measure chaos, and
3. visualization of the properties of dynamical systems.

Every lecture is composed of two parts during 90 minutes: Lecture(60 min.) and Practice (30 min.). The textbook contains a computer program called Dynamics(by Jim Yorke), which runs on Windows OS.
