21st Century COE Program : Mathematics of Nonlinear Structure via Singularity

Meeting for reporting COE activities

On January 28, 2005, a meeting for reporting the activities of the 21st Century COE Program was held at the Keidanren Kaikan in Tokyo.

At the first session, six COE Programs selected in the FY2003 reported their activities, and from our COE Program, Professor Ozawa, Leader of the COE Program, gave a speech, entitled "Mathematics opens the future - extension and deepening of mathematics via singularity and nonlinearity".

At the second session, a panel discussion, entitled "Fusion and utilization of knowledge" was held. Masami Nakamura, Member of the editorial board at Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc., was in charge of the overall proceedings at this session. The panelists were: Ayao Tsuge (Member of Council for Science and Technology Policy, Cabinet Office), Sadayuki Tsuchiya, (Adjutant general, Minister's Secretariat for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), Mamoru Mohri, (Director of the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation), and Yoshihito Osada, (Vice-President of Hokkaido University).
